Overview
Grip Face Types
Interchangeable jaw faces allow a single grip body to accommodate a wide variety of specimen materials and geometries. Selecting the
correct face type prevents premature jaw breaks and slippage.
Crosscut / Diamond
1×45° pyramid pattern. High grip on plastics, composites, metals. Standard for ASTM D638, E8.
Rubber Coated
Soft face distributes clamping pressure. Ideal for films, foils, paper, biomaterials, thin elastomers.
V-Jaw
V-groove for round/cylindrical specimens — wire, rod, tube, rebar. Prevents rotation under load during testing.
Blank (Smooth)
Flat smooth face. For delicate films, foils, and precision optical specimens where surface marking is unacceptable.
Wave / Knurl
5 mm wave profile. Holds flexible woven textiles and webbing without cutting fibres.
Serration 1×1
Fine diamond-cut sandpaper-like surface. Used in thread / capstan rope grips for secure cord holding.
Tip: Always match the face to specimen hardness — aggressive serrated jaws can initiate cracks in soft plastics; rubber faces
prevent this by distributing load evenly across the gripping zone.

Body Material Comparison
Choose the correct body material to match your test environment — wet, corrosive, high-load, or weight-critical.
| MOC | Advantages | Limitations | Best For |
| Aluminium | Lightweight, low inertia, excellent for low-capacity cells, anodized for wear resistance | Lower max. load capacity; softer than steel | Films, foils, yarns, biomaterials; weight-critical setups; low to medium force (<5 kN) |
| Alloy Steel | High strength, rigid, handles up to 100 kN+; ENP coated for corrosion resistance | Heavier; may corrode in aggressive media without coating | Metals, composites, structural materials; high-force testing (>10 kN) |
| Stainless Steel | Excellent corrosion resistance; suitable for aggressive chemicals, salt spray, biofluids | Higher cost; slightly lower hardness than alloy steel tools | Food, pharma, medical devices, wet environments, saline/chemical exposure |
ENP (Electroless Nickel Plate) — Note
Electroless nickel plating deposits a uniform 25–75 µm nickel-phosphorus layer over the entire surface — including recesses and blind holes — providing:
Corrosion Resistance Hardness 45–65 HRC Uniform Thickness Non-magnetic
ENP-coated alloy steel offers a cost-effective alternative to full stainless steel in mildly corrosive environments. However, for strong acids/alkalis or saline immersion, full 316L stainless steel is recommended.
Temperature note: All steel grips operate from −70 °C to +280 °C. Rubber-coated jaws are rated for the same range; pure rubber elements (seals, gaskets) may limit range — consult application engineer for extended temperature testing.
